Tyron Whitten Slams Offshore Wind Project in Geographe Bay, Calls for Moratorium
Newly elected One Nation Senator for Western Australia Tyron Whitten has condemned the Albanese government’s decision to greenlight marine survey operations for an offshore wind project in Geographe Bay, warning it places local fishing, tourism, and marine life at serious risk. Whitten criticised Federal Environment Minister Murray Watt for failing to invoke environmental protections to halt the project, accusing Labor of endangering the ecosystem in pursuit of its renewables agenda.
Whitten said there had been no proper community consultation and claimed the proposed wind farm threatens critical breeding grounds for migratory whales and other marine species. He cited global concerns over the impact of marine surveys on cetacean deaths and called for a complete moratorium on offshore wind projects nationwide. Arguing that Australia should instead focus on its coal and gas reserves, Whitten said One Nation rejects sacrificing marine environments “on the altar of net zero.”
